Course Overview
Hi, everyone. My name is Ross Bagurdes, and welcome to my course, Network Security Basics. I'm a network engineer with more than 20 years experience building enterprise networks and teaching people about them. Nearly all of us use the internet on a daily basis for socializing, shopping, working, banking, planning trips, among a multitude of other things. It's become hard to ignore issues with respect to network security. Network security breaches show up in the news on a regular basis, and it's quite likely you've been asked to change your password on a website due to a breach of data from an attack. Because of this, the demand for network security professionals has skyrocketed and understanding IT security concepts has become a valuable asset, regardless of your role in an organization. This course will introduce you to the basics of network security, introducing you to critical terminology and concepts including understanding how threats and vulnerabilities are identified, methods and concepts used for authentication of users and systems, common types of network attacks, and methods that we can use to prevent those attacks, as well as understanding remote access utilities, like VPNs. By the end of this course, you'll understand the concepts, protocols, and techniques used to identify and secure threats which can compromise and IT infrastructure. Before watching this course, you should understand the concepts presented in the Network Management and Operations course. After completing this fourth course in the five‑part series, you should feel confident moving on to the last course in the series, Network Troubleshooting and Tools. I hope you'll join me on this journey to learn security concepts with the Network Security Basics, course at Pluralsight.
