Course Overview Hi, everyone, my name is Sorin Bechira and welcome to my course Photoshop CC Basics: Mobile UI Design. I am a freelance multimedia designer. Adobe Photoshop is already known as a top-notch application on designing UI interfaces but now in Photoshop CC, they released some new tools and features that will boost up your productivity and flow. In this course, we are going to explore these new features, and see how Adobe starts helping us not only to make good-looking UIs, but how to make it faster and smarter. Some of the major topics that we will cover, include how to use artboards to be able to manage all your UI content within one file, how to make the smart objects and the layer comps give you multiple instances using the same objects in a completely non-destructive and scalable flow, and how to easily export different application statuses and prepare them for a great client presentation layout. By the end of this course, you will know how to use these new features to build and manage your UI elements faster and smarter. Before beginning the course, you should be familiar with Adobe Photoshop. I hope you'll join me on this journey to discover the new Photoshop potential with the Photoshop CC Basics: Mobile UI Design course here at Pluralsight.
Building the UI Elements Welcome to the second module of our course. In this module we build a basic, mobile application interface using some new cool features of Adobe Photoshop CC 2015, but first, let me give you a short background overview to understand why are we going to love these new features. Here we have a small selection of the mobile devices in use nowadays, and it's cool to have so many choices and brands, but the real struggle comes when we have to make apps for all these devices. Why? Well, we can see here why. We have multiple screen sizes to design for and we have many different screen aspect ratios, but that's not all, also we have multiple screen pixels density, varying from 70 dpi to almost 500 and you can see here the difference between these values and how our graphics will be seen. Lower pixel density on the left and higher to the right. So, in order to fit all these requirements, our designs have to be both scalable and fluid so we will rely on scalable vector graphics and high resolution images, and here we have a simple, yet effective example of a raster element on the left and a vector on the right. At 100%, they look almost the same, but when scaled up, a raster loses the quality while the vector keeps the quality preserving the details and shape. Having this in mind, let's design our screen apps.
