Data Warehousing in SAP BW
Hi. This is Laszlo Meszaros from Pluralsight. Welcome back. This module is about the data warehousing in SAP BW. The result of data warehousing process, if implemented well, is a centralized quality analytical database. Why do we need it? Imagine, each morning when you arrive to your workplace, you have a stable and fresh database, and you can start your work from this state. This is a huge gain in time. Without such a database, you might spend at least 80% of your time by finding out where to find your data, and you need to do the ETL process manually each day. Believe me, I've worked like that and it's a very robotic feeling and kills your productivity fast. But if you have a central database, there is no question where to start your work, in the Business Warehouse, because it's a simplified database collected from many sources. And you can spend your time focusing on your main problem, on the questions that you want to answer. Data warehousing has two main processes, the modeling and the administration. In this module, you will learn that modeling is the crucial development process of a business analytical database, and I will show you BW's intuitive modeling tool for that. A ready-to-use data flow is the main result of modeling that defines from where and how the system should load the data. We will be discussing administration also. Administration is also about the database, but after the development when the developed data flow is live. Administration tools load data in this data flow day by day with automated processes. You will learn how easy to plan, schedule, and monitor loading processes with BW's administration tools. First, let's discuss data warehouse modeling in BW.
