Overview and Installation
Hi my name is Steven Evans. In this course we're going to be looking at Windows Sever 2012 and how it applies to you, as a developer. Over the years there have been many versions of Windows Sever and their always tied to the version of the Client OS. Way back when, we had Windows Pro, Windows 2000 Sever coming out at the same time. Very similar feature set, very similar look, just sever features in the Sever OS and the Pro edition was just limited to client desktop features. Then we had the Windows XP and Windows Sever 2003 release, followed many years later by Windows XP SP2, which was a big release, same thing on the Windows Sever side, Windows Sever 2003 R2. Then we had the famed Windows Vista release which corresponded with Windows Server 2008 quickly replaced by Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and then today we've got again Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, but replaced quickly by Windows 8. 1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. In this course, we're going to be talking about the Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2 Edition of Windows Server. There are some Windows Server 2012 boxes out there, but by and large they've been replaced by Windows Server 2012 R2 boxes. The feature sets largely the same, their pretty hard to tell the difference between, just like it's difficult to tell difference between Windows 8 and Windows 8. 1. When there are difference, I'll try to remember to point them out. In this module, we're going to be looking at Windows Server 2012 R2 overview, talking about what's new the OS, what different editions there are, things along those lines. Then we're going to go through an actual installation of Windows Server 2012 R2 on a brand new server. Then when we're done with the installation, I'm going to demo a new feature in Windows Server 2012, which allows you to switch between core and GUI.

Network Configuration
In this module, we're going to be looking at configuring the network on a Windows Server 2012 machine. First, we're going to talk about general network configuration including the brand new NIC teaming. We're going to discuss how to use and configure the Windows Firewall and then we're going to look at how to enable and configure remote desktop to remote into the machine.

Server Configuration
In this module, we're going to look at Server Configuration. First, we're going to look at disk management and how to manage disks in our machines. Then we're going to look at local users and groups and how to leverage those for different purposes and then we're going to look at Windows Update and how to use it to keep our machines up to date.
