Building with Git in Jenkins

In this lesson we will be leveraging Source Code Management to provide the code for our build. This means that we will add the step of cloning from Git, as well as installing a required build tool and archiving the artifact of the build.

  1. Challenge

    Create an Ant Installation on the Jenkins Master

    From the dashboard menu on the left, select Configure Jenkins, then select Configure Build Tools. Scroll down to Ant installation and add an installation. Name the installation and check the box for automatic installation.

  2. Challenge

    Create a Freestyle Project That Uses Git and the Ant Installation

    From the Jenkins Dashboard select New Item.
    Then name the project and select Freestyle project as the type.
    In the configuration screen, under Source Code Management, check the box for Git.
    Enter the repository to clone: https://github.com/linuxacademy/content-cje-scmlab.git
    Under the Build section, select the option to build with Ant, and set it to use the installation that you configured.
    The target should be jar.
    Under Post-build Actions select Archive the artifacts, and under Advanced, check Fingerprint all archived artifacts.
    The artifact to archive is located in the workspace under build/jar/hello.jar.
