Creating an Aurora DB Cluster with an Instance Parameter Group and a Custom Cluster Endpoint

Hi and welcome to this hands-on lab where we will create an Aurora database cluster and a database parameter group, along with a Custom Endpoint.

  1. Challenge

    Create an Aurora Database
    1. Create an Aurora Database
    2. Select the default MySQL and default MySQL version
    3. Leave the default Database Location as Regional
    4. Choose Dev/Test for templates
    5. Add auroracluster as our DB Identifier
    6. Add password for the admin credentials
    7. For the DB instance size, choose Burstable and db.t2.small
    8. Enable Multi-AZ deployment
    9. Select or create new subnet group
    10. Choose to not have your database publicly accessible
    11. Choose a security group
    12. Leave the defaults for AZ and database port
    13. Add auroraclusterinstance1 as the DB instance identifier
    14. Add initial db name: auroradb
    15. Leave the defaults for parameter groups
    16. Leave defaults for IAM, Failover, Backup, Encryption, BackTrack
    17. Do not enable enhanced monitoring because it will take a bit longer for your database to create
    18. Leave default for Maintenance as well
    19. Click Create database
    • Add a read replica to our cluster following the above recommendations
  2. Challenge

    Create an Aurora Database Parameter Group
    1. Create an Aurora database parameter group
    2. Click into Parameter Groups in your left navigation
    3. In Parameter group family, select the Database Parameter Group Family
    4. From that list, select the Database Parameter Group
    5. Enter Group name
    6. Enter a Description
    7. Click Create
  3. Challenge

    Create a Custom Endpoint
    1. In the Cluster detail page, choose Create custom endpoint
    2. Add a name
    3. Add a user ID
    4. Add a region
    5. Click Create endpoint
