Enable Account Auditing with AWS CloudTrail

In this lab, you’ll set up AWS CloudTrail to capture and review account activity. You’ll create a CloudTrail trail, configure log storage in S3, generate a management event by modifying an S3 bucket, and then use CloudTrail Event History to locate and inspect the recorded event.

  1. Challenge

    Create and configure an AWS CloudTrail trail to capture managed events
    • Create a new CloudTrail trail.
    • Create an S3 bucket to store CloudTrail logs.
    • Create a CloudWatch log group to store CloudTrail events.
  2. Challenge

    Generate management events by modifying the S3 bucket and re-authenticating
    • Locate the pre-created S3 bucket in the S3 console.
    • Enable versioning on the bucket to trigger a PutBucketVersioning management event.
    • Confirm that the bucket’s versioning status has changed to “Enabled”.
    • Sign out of the AWS Console and sign back in to generate a ConsoleLogin event.
  3. Challenge

    Locate and inspect the recorded event in CloudTrail Event History
    • Navigate to the CloudTrail Event History console.
    • Filter or search for the  PutBucketVersioning  event related to the bucket modification.
    • Filter or search for the  ConsoleLogin  event that corresponds to your console sign-in.
    • Review and confirm that both events reflect the actions performed during the lab session.
