Executing Objectives via Lateral Movement

Globomantics recently acquired a small company and is migrating their legacy servers into the main corporate network. Before a major infrastructure migration occurs, Globomantics has hired you to ensure this newly attached subnet and infrastructure cannot be easily compromised. Your goal is to identify targets for lateral movement. Using your pre-configured Kali Linux machine, you will scan the segmented subnet to discover active hosts using nmap. Next, you will fingerprint running services and operating systems. Finally, you will review accessible SMB services to map potential attack vectors within the newly acquired company infrastructure.

  1. Challenge

Identify all live hosts on the target subnet without executing a full port scan

Your goal is to identify targets using your pre-configured Kali Linux machine. You will scan the segmented subnet to discover active hosts using Nmap to generate a list of active IP addresses and hosts.

  2. Challenge

Fingerprint the operating systems and identify active services running on the discovered hosts

You will determine the operating systems, open ports, and active service versions on the discovered targets to identify vulnerable services and correctly profile the legacy servers within the newly acquired infrastructure.

  3. Challenge

Enumerate user accounts and shared resources on SMB-enabled hosts

Finally, you will review accessible SMB services to map potential attack vectors within the newly acquired company infrastructure. You will utilize SMB enumeration tools to extract user lists and accessible file shares against the running SMB, compiling all findings into targets.txt.
