Sandworm: Web Shell Emulation Lab

In this lab, you’ll practice exploiting vulnerabilities in a web application to deploy web shells. First you'll create a simple PAS web shell and execute commands on a remote target system. Next, you'll use your custom PAS web shell to get full shell access on the target system. Finally, you’ll deploy a web shell used by Sandworm, which was used to cause widespread power outages across Ukraine in 2022.

Getting Started in the Lab Environment

Here are the initial instructions and explanation of the lab environment. Read this while your environment is busy creating itself from nothing. Yes, this violates physics; we know. How fun!

  2. Challenge

    Create Your Own Web Shell

You'll create a PAS web shell and exploit a web vulnerability to upload it and execute commands on a target web server.

  3. Challenge

Get Full Shell Access via a Web Shell

You'll use your custom PAS web shell to create a reverse shell that you'll catch with a netcat listener.

  4. Challenge

    Deploy the Neo-ReGeorg Web Shell

You'll emulate the Sandworm threat group by deploying the Neo-ReGeorg web shell to create a TCP proxy through a compromised web server.

    The Last Challenge

Welcome to the final challenge! This is your last chance to experiment in the environment. Clicking Finish Lab will end this little world that flittered into existence just for you.
