  1. Challenge

    Create and Configure a SQL Database

    • Create a Standard edition SQL Database with 200 DTUs
    • You will need to create a SQL Server as well. Use any unique name desired and create in the same region as your resource group
    • Enable the sample database and update the firewall rules for access
  2. Challenge

    Configure Data Masking

    • Mask the EmailAddress column in the Customer table with the Email ([email protected]) masking function
  3. Challenge

    Create a User to View Masked Data

    • Create a non-admin user to view unmasked data with the following query:
       CREATE USER non_admin WITH PASSWORD = '<Lab Password>';
       ALTER ROLE db_datareader ADD MEMBER non_admin;  
      
  4. Challenge

    Verify Data Masking

    • Connect to the SQL Database using the non-administrator user and run the following query to view the masked data:
      SELECT  FirstName,LastName,EmailAddress
      FROM [SalesLT].[Customer]
