Configuring Azure Private Link for Blob Storage

Azure Private Link lets you access Azure services like Blob Storage over a private IP address inside your virtual network, keeping traffic off the public internet. In this hands-on lab, you will use the Azure portal to create a private endpoint for an Azure Storage account, review the private endpoint and DNS records it generates, and validate from a virtual machine that the storage account now resolves to a private IP address within your network. After completing this lab, will be able to configure and verify private network access to Azure Blob Storage.

  1. Challenge

    Review the lab resources

Before making any changes, review the storage account's public network access setting and the virtual network's subnets, including the ranges reserved for the virtual machine and the private endpoint. Then confirm how the storage account currently resolves from the virtual machine, over the public internet.

  2. Challenge

Disable public network access on the storage account

Disable public network access on the storage account, removing its public path so it can only be reached privately once a private endpoint is in place.

  3. Challenge

Create a private endpoint for Blob Storage in the target virtual network

Create a private endpoint for the storage account's blob service, in the subnet reserved for private connectivity, with private DNS zone integration enabled.

  4. Challenge

Review the private endpoint and DNS settings created for the storage account

Review the private endpoint's assigned private IP address. Then review the private DNS zone and confirm it's linked to the virtual network.

  5. Challenge

Test storage account name resolution from the virtual machine

Reconnect to the virtual machine and confirm the storage account's hostname now resolves to a private IP address, rather than the public one seen earlier in the lab.
