Designing Scalable and Resilient Web Applications

Master the skills to design enterprise-grade, multi-region solutions in Azure. In this hands-on lab, you’ll deploy Azure App Service and Azure SQL Database across two regions, configure Azure Front Door and Traffic Manager for global load balancing and failover, and validate your architecture by simulating a regional outage. By the end, you’ll have the confidence and practical experience to build scalable, fault-tolerant web applications—ready to pass the AZ-305 and tackle real-world cloud resiliency challenges.

  1. Challenge

Design a Multi-Region Web Application Architecture

In this lab objective you will cover the theory behind the architecture of the application you will be deploying in Azure. You will understand what application instances will be involved, where they will be deployed and what Azure tools you will use to enable automated failover and load balancing.

  2. Challenge

Deploy Web Application Resources Across Regions

In this lab objective you will deploy two instances of an Application in two separate regions (East US and Central US).

  3. Challenge

    Configuring Automated Failover

For this lab objective you will use Azure Traffic Manager to configure automated failover between the primary and secondary application instances. This way if any issues occur with the primary application all traffic will automatically be routed to the secondary instance.

  4. Challenge

    Simulate and Test Resiliency

In this lab objective you will disable the primary instance of your application in East US and confirm that your Azure Traffic Manager configuration automatically re-routes traffic to your secondary instance in Central US.

  5. Challenge

Optimize for High Availability and Performance

In this lab objective you will use Azure Front Door to perform performance based load balancing and optimize your content delivery for both high availability and high performance.
