Investigate a failing application hosted on a Google Compute Engine virtual machine. Use Cloud Logging to examine application logs, identify recurring FileNotFoundError messages, and create a log filter that isolates the failures.

Create a custom log-based metric to track recurring application failures. Configure a Cloud Monitoring alerting policy to detect when errors exceed a defined threshold and verify that the alert triggers successfully.

Remediate the application configuration and verify recovery
Identify and correct the application's configuration error, then restart the affected service. Verify that the application returns successful HTTP responses, recurring errors stop, and Cloud Monitoring reflects the recovery.
