Using ConfigMaps on GKE
Part of good cloud-native application design is separating configuration from the deployable artifact — i.e., the container image. In this lab, you will deploy a web app that can be dynamically reconfigured based on the existence of both environment variables and a configuration file. The variables and the file can be added at runtime with the use of Kubernetes ConfigMaps.

Challenge
Create and Connect to a GKE Cluster
Create a new GKE cluster and then connect to it via the Cloud Shell.

Build the Container and Create the Deployment
Retrieve the working files from the GitHub repository. Then, create a YAML deployment file with the code supplied in the guide and a load balancer service to expose the deployment.

Use a ConfigMap to Add Environment Variables
Create a ConfigMap with two test name value pairs and update the YAML deployment file to create the environmental variables from the ConfigMap. Re-apply the deployment and review the results.

Use a ConfigMap to Add a Configuration File
Create a configuration file with a number of name/value pairs and then create a new ConfigMap for that file. Update the deployment YAML to create a volume from the ConfigMap and mount it into the pod. Re-apply the deployment and review the results.

Enable APIs and Assign IAM Role
Enable the required APIs for Google Kubernetes Engine and Cloud Build and then assign the Cloud Build Service Agent role to the Compute Engine default Service Account.
