Inside Saab’s tech upskilling transformation

With Pluralsight as the foundation of its skill development ecosystem, Saab is embedding continuous learning to drive cloud fluency, secure-by-design practices, and AI readiness across a highly regulated environment.

The challenge

How to compete in a software-defined defense landscape

Saab needed a learning engine capable of keeping pace with rapid technological change. The company’s business depends on people who can quickly learn and apply skills to complex, safety-critical systems. For Saab’s learning and development (L&D) team, the mandate was clear:

  • Make continuous learning the norm
  • Integrate learning into the flow of work
  • Measure both leading and lagging indicators of impact

Alexander Lindstrand, Head of Learning & Development, explained, “For us, a learning culture means continuous learning in the flow of work. We track engagement, but the real impact comes when skills are applied in business projects and drive behavioral change.”

At Saab, continuous learning is how we stay competitive and ready for the future.

The solution

Role-based learning paths

Cloud architecture, secure software development, and AI paths were curated to align directly with both current program needs and future capability demands. To make learning accessible, Pluralsight was integrated into Saab’s learning management system, creating a seamless experience within the broader employee workflow.

Another critical piece of the puzzle was providing hands-on practice. Through labs, sandboxes, and assessments, employees are able to convert knowledge into on-the-job skills without putting business operations at risk. Team member adoption was further accelerated through subject matter expert (SME) champions, engaged leaders, and cluster leaders who provided targeted communication and ensured local relevance across teams.

Key benefits of Pluralsight for Saab

The results

Strong security, cloud agility, and AI readiness

“Cybersecurity is a strategic cornerstone of Saab,” explained Jonas Eliasson, Cybersecurity SME. “It’s not just a protective layer—it’s a built-in enabler that strengthens trust, unlocks innovation, and ensures readiness.”

“AI helps us make better and faster decisions, and cloud gives us the flexibility and scalability we need,” said Petter Bedoire, Saab’s Chief Technology Officer. “Together they keep us competitive for the future.”

Saab plans to deepen its capabilities in artificial intelligence and autonomy, expand its cloud expertise, and continue embedding security at every level of its systems. As Navid Azadi put it, “We’re building technologies people won’t see for another 10 – 15 years. That’s why we trust Pluralsight to prepare our people for the future.”

It’s not about your age or your degree—it’s about staying relevant and bringing energy to the table.
