Welcome Hi guys, my name is Chad Troftgruben, and I would like to welcome you to Train Simple's After Effects, Building on the Fundamentals course. If you are new to After Effects and have yet to check out my previous course, After Effects Fundamentals, I highly recommend you check that course out first. We cover a lot of essentials in that course and they'll be important to know as you progress to Building on the Fundamentals. So, with that said, what are we learning in this course? Well, we'll primarily focus in on 3D assets, cameras, lights, and text. The first lesson, we'll go right into 3D, we'll learn how it works in After Effects, we'll start working with 3D assets in addition to setting up a camera and eventually adding a light layer, casting shadows, toggling our camera options and more. After that, we'll start working with text. We'll create a simple text layer, build upon it by adjusting properties, then we'll take a look at some animated text effects that you can apply straight from After Effects. And then, we'll take a look at the Ray-traced 3D renderer which can bring your text to life in 3D. Then, it's on to animating a title, probably the meat of this course. We'll set up the text layers and then we'll go into animating our layers out. We'll eventually focus in on creating different effects for these layers. And finally, polish everything up so that you have a snazzy-looking title for a promo video, credit sequence or anything your heart desires. And finally, we'll touch on expressions, we'll learn what they are, we'll write out a very simple expression, and then we'll learn different ways to control the expression, in addition to animating it out. By the time you're done with this course, you'll have a stronger understanding of After Effects, especially when it comes to 3D assets and animated text. So, I hope you're ready because we're about to get started.
Working with Expressions As I've tried to touch on in After Effects Fundamentals and in this course, there is so much you can do with After Effects. It's really mind boggling. And, one of those aspects comes from writing expressions. Now, expressions are basically lines of code that you can input into After Effects that can create different results. Now, I'm not going to go too in depth with all of this, mainly because writing expressions is really an art form in itself. And, we could spend hours just talking about it and exploring all the different aspects. Basically, this lesson is just to show you what you can do with expressions, how you can write them, and how to do some basic things, such as animate expressions out, should you need to. As you can see on screen, we have a very familiar set up on basically using the Lesson Two project file. However, you will find a Lesson Five project file in you work files. Just don't get confused. I'm using the same assets, but for this, it really doesn't matter as we're simply going to do some basic expressions just to show you what's possible. Anyway with that said, let's get started with writing some expressions.
