The What and How of Personal Branding My name is Jason Alba. I've done a number of job search and career management courses for Pluralsight. In this course, what I want to do is drill down on the concept of personal branding, something that we introduced in the career management 2. 0 course, and really dig into how to create a personal brand. Personal branding has always been around, but it's not something that we called personal branding. In 1997, Tom Peters, a popular management guru, wrote an article for the Fast Company Magazine called, The Brand Called You. This is when the concept of personal branding and owning your own brand really became popular. In the introduction to the article it said, personal branding is what it takes to become CEO of Me, Inc. You know from the Career Management 2. 0 Pluralsight course that there's more than just personal branding, There's networking and relationships and things like that, but personal branding really is a big deal, whether you're in job search or not. I'm convinced that if we have a stronger brand, we bring more value to the company that we work for. Could you imagine working in an organization where people are so well-branded within their industry that they're regularly invited to contribute to magazine articles, field questions for interviews, and speak at conferences? The marketing benefit that would come to the company because of the well-branded employees would be powerful.
