In this series of UDK tutorials we will learn how to create particle systems in Unreal's Cascade Editor. We'll start off by breaking down Cascade's interface and how to create a brand new particle system. We'll then dissect the default particle system and discuss the anatomy of the system. After that we'll take a more hands on approach by building three different particle systems that will challenge you to begin thinking like a VFX artist. By the end of this UDK tutorial, you will not only have an incredible set of particle systems but you'll have learned how to create particle systems in Unreal's Cascade Editor.

About the author

Joshua is a devoted games author at Pluralsight. For years Joshua was a key author behind Digital-Tutors' (now a Pluralsight company) popular game engine training. As a kid, he had a passion for playing video games, which eventually developed into a fascination with the process of game creation. The question of "How'd they do that?" led Joshua on a quest to learn to make these games himself. Ever since then, Joshua has devoted his life to creating games, as well as teaching others to build their own fantastic video games.

Introduction and Project Overview
Hi, I'm Josh with Digital-Tutors. In this series of tutorials we'll learn how to create particle system in Unreal's Cascade Editor. We'll start off by breaking down Cascade's interface and how to create a brand new particle system. We'll then dissect the default particle system and discuss the anatomy of that system. Here we'll begin discussing emitters, modules, and data types, and learn how each one will affect particle systems. After that we'll take a more hands-on approach by building a robust fire and smoke particle system that will challenge you to begin thinking like a VFX artist. Now by the end of this course you'll not only have an incredible set of particle systems, but you'll have all of the knowledge you need to begin creating your own particle systems in UDK. So with that said, let's get started.
