AWS Identity and Access Management

2 Courses
1 Lab
2 Hours
Skill IQ

Build practical, hands-on skill with AWS Identity and Access Management by creating, securing, troubleshooting, and designing access controls in real AWS environments. This path moves beyond basic IAM awareness and gives you the applied competence to manage identities, debug permissions, and design secure authorization patterns with confidence.

Choose this path if you want a deeply practical introduction to how IAM actually behaves in production — from your first IAM user to diagnosing real “AccessDenied” errors and applying least-privilege design.

This learning path is actively in production. More content will be added to this page as it gets published and becomes available in the library. Planned content includes:

**Ignition** - Ignition: AWS IAM - Diagnose and fix common IAM access issues (hands-on lab))

**Essentials** - AWS IAM Core Concepts (video course) - AWS IAM Troubleshooting (video course)

What You'll Learn
  • 1. Create, secure, and test IAM identities using AWS-managed policies, roles, and temporary credentials — with clear, observable outcomes for each action.
  • 2. Diagnose and resolve common IAM permission failures using Policy Simulator, Access Advisor, and CloudTrail to understand why AWS allowed or denied an action.
  • 3. Design simple, secure authorization patterns for a single AWS account, applying least privilege, structured policy design, and industry-aligned best practices.
Prerequisites
  • You'll get the most from this path if you're comfortable moving around the AWS Console and have a general sense of how AWS services fit together — whether from the AWS Fundamentals path or your own experience. You don't need to be an IAM expert.
  • All we ask is that you arrive knowing what IAM is at a high level and feeling ready to try it for real. The early courses will guide you through the hands-on basics and light troubleshooting, and the deeper “how it works” concepts will come naturally as you progress.
