Upskilling veterans for in-demand cloud careers

Cloud Veterans transforms the futures of veterans and their families—propelling them from career uncertainty to in-demand cloud computing positions. Powered by Pluralsight, this nonprofit has placed 96 learners into roles nationwide, and they’re on track to upskill 1,000 veterans in 2025.

The challenge

Preparing veterans for the civilian workforce

The transition from military to civilian life can be volatile. Many veterans struggle to translate their military experience into language and skills that resonate with civilian employers. Meanwhile, the tech industry faces a well-documented skilled talent shortage, particularly in cloud roles.

Cloud Veterans set out to solve both challenges at once. They wanted to provide interactive upskilling, giving veterans the opportunity to build real-world skills and confidence. They also wanted to benefit employers by making it easy to fill positions with motivated, job-ready talent. To do so, they needed a partner capable of delivering expert-led learning content and practice in today’s essential tech topics.

The solution

Accelerating learning and building job-ready confidence

Pluralsight became the backbone of Cloud Veterans’ learning model. Through its courses, certification prep, hands-on labs, and skill assessment tools like Role IQ, veterans gain both the theory and practical knowledge needed to launch tech careers.

In addition to these features, Pluralsight’s ability to scale and customize learning experiences made it an ideal platform for Cloud Veterans. Tailored learning paths empower individuals to progress through courses, labs, and other content aligned with their unique career goals. Whether participants aim to pursue cloud administration, security, or architecture, the program adapts to meet them where they are.

The results

Expanded reach and direct job placement

The wide-reaching impact of Cloud Veterans has grown significantly since their partnership with Pluralsight. With new licenses added and ongoing support, the organization has experienced a 5x year-over-year increase in learning program participation.

This is a direct result of the program’s effectiveness. Graduates have gone on to receive positions in top companies, with 96 job placements.
For executive director Greg Henson, the 2025 Best in Tech recognition signals both validation of Cloud Veterans’ growing influence and a promising sign of future opportunity. “Being named a Best in Tech winner is a reflection of the hard work our team and learners put in every day,” Henson said. “But it’s also a challenge to keep growing—to reach even more veterans and help close the opportunity gap in tech.”

Pluralsight has been instrumental in helping us scale. Without that support, we couldn’t offer this level of access to veterans at no cost.
